Anxiety disorders

Feeling stressed and overwhelmed are symptoms of anxiety which most of us feel due to the fast paced world we live and all of the obligations and responsibilities that we feel the pressure to follow through and complete them. We think that we have to "do it all" and be perfect at each one. Realistically, we most likely can't not accomplish all the of things on that internal list in your mind. Regardless, you continue to feel paralyzed with your mind racing and avoid doing most of those things because it's just "too overwhelming." If you take time to quiet your mind and try some simple strategies such as making lists, deep breathing and relaxation exercises, focus on being in the present moment, and change your multitasking mindset.

The difference between an anxiety disorder and just having normal anxiety is the level of distress that you are feeling and whether your emotions are causing you a lot of suffering and dysfunction.

Symptoms of clinical anxiety include the following:

1. Panic, fear, and uneasiness

2. Sleep problems

3. Not being able to stay calm and still

4. Cold, sweaty, numb, or tingling hands or feet

5. Shortness of breath

6. Heart palpitations

7. Dizziness
